Polyzoi M, et al.
Using a National Patient Register data, the researchers investigated the prevalence of diagnosed attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and incidence of newly diagnosed ADHD in Swedish adults over time as well as assessed comorbidities and pharmacologic treatment. Between 2006 and 2011, the number of adults diagnosed with ADHD increased and the majority of patients had prescribed ADHD-specific medication in Sweden. It was observed that over one-half of patients had psychiatric comorbidities, one-third were prescribed more than one add-on medication. Findings revealed that in specific patient subpopulations, consumption of pharmacologic ADHD medication was high.
