Aim was to gauge the long–term outcome of older patients with newly diagnosed de novo acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) treated with all–trans retinoic acid (ATRA) plus anthracycline–based therapy. Results of this study emphasised the efficacy of a less intensive front–line regimen with ATRA and anthracycline monochemotherapy to improve outcomes in older APL patients.
