A prognostic nomogram based on competing endogenous RNA network for clear-cell renal cell carcinoma

Researchers herein comprehensively assessed a prognostic model based on lncRNA(long non-coding RNA)-miRNA(microRNA)-mRNA competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory network of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Using the Genotype-Tissue Expression database and The Cancer Genome Atlas database, they obtained RNA-sequencing expression data. This study involved 354 samples with ccRCC and 157 normal controlled samples. They found 2191 mRNAs and 1377 lncRNAs, and established a dysregulated ceRNA network for ccRCC employing 7 mRNAs, 363 lncRNAs, and 3 miRNAs. They ascertained a gene signature incorporating eight genes based on this ceRNA, and then a nomogram predicting 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival likelihood for ccRCC was constructed. As inferred, it not only could improve the existing knowledge of ccRCC tumorigenesis mechanism but also could afford guidance for clinicians to reach a more precise treatment decision.
